An historic day in Annapolis as the House Democratic Caucus chose Adrienne Jones from Baltimore County as their choice to serve as Speaker. It was a contentious race that began with Del. Jones, Del. Dereck Davis and Del. Maggie McIntosh. Jones withdrew her name from consideration and pledged her support to Davis. However, after the 42 House Republicans pledged their support to Davis, the dynamic in the Democratic caucus changed, and ultimately resulted in Jones re-emerging as the caucus’ choice, giving her enough Democratic votes to earn the majority needed to win a floor vote. She is expected to be accepted on the House floor by acclamation. In other words, she will clearly win with Democratic support.

Changes across leadership are expected in the House and at the committee level, including chairmen and committee members. These appointments may not happen immediately, but stay tuned – MSCCA lobbyists Compass Government Relations will keep us posted.
