The Maryland State Department of Education has released information on Maryland General Assembly Senate Bill 651 (Chapter 843) Public Schools – Suspensions and Expulsions which amended Education Article §7-305. This bill, which became effective in 2017, prohibited a child enrolled in a public prekindergarten program (as defined by the statute), or in kindergarten, first or second grade from being suspended or expelled from school, subject to exceptions (i.e., carrying a firearm on school property).
