Parent Cafés provide an opportunity to partner with parents in Maryland to help keep their families strong. An effective family engagement tool, Parent Cafés bring together parents of children birth through age five for structured, meaningful conversations related to the five researched-informed Protective Factors which can help families thrive. Parent Cafés have been successful in a variety of settings: non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, early childhood programs, elementary schools, shelters, detention centers, community programs… anywhere parents or young children gather!
Maryland Family Network, through the sponsorship of Baltimore City Public Schools, is offering programs a free Strengthening Families Maryland Parent Café Facilitator Training Institute on September 9 – 10, 2019, in Baltimore, MD. The Institute, which Baltimore City registrants will have priority to attend, will provide information and materials which organizational representatives need in order to provide Parent Cafés. Please see the attached flyer and overview for more information. Programs with representatives completing the training are eligible for free resources and financial support to help with their Parent Cafés. Programs are encouraged to send a team of three or four people, including at least one program parent and one staff person, to the Institute. And the first Head Start programs to register at least one program parent and one staff who attend are eligible to receive a free Parent Café Kit valued at over $200!
Parent Cafés are inclusive of all parents of children birth through age five, so please share this email with your colleagues who work with very young children or their parents. Attendees from Baltimore City will be prioritized to attend should the Institute fill, with other registrants accepted if space allows.
