Maryland has a significant surplus of money and in order to build a stronger, more equitable, effective, efficient child care system that works for children, parents, and child care businesses, we need to raise awareness and our voices to discuss a way forward.

Comptroller Peter Franchot is inviting you…child care providers, parents, stakeholders, and interested parties to join him on Saturday, January 29 at 10 a.m. via Zoom to help chart the course forward for child care in the state of Maryland.

As you know child care providers are essential for Maryland families to get to work, and many have closed since the onset of the pandemic.

Now more than ever they need our advocacy and support. Comptroller Franchot will be hosting a conversation on how best to support this critical sector and he is asking you to join him. He will detail his request to legislators to use $500 million of Maryland’s $6 billion surplus for these essential providers to retain and hire staff, re-open child care programs shuttered by the pandemic and subsidize child care for families that cannot afford it.

Comptroller Franchot will be joined by Delegate Pam Queen, Maryland State Child Care Association Executive Director Chris Peusch, essential child care providers/programs, parents and other stakeholders. Speakers will be taking questions and comments as time allows.
